thoughts worth listening to

just recently zapped through a quite eloquent talk on “ethics in politics” (in german only - sorry) helt in the university of tübingen by former german chancellor Helmut Schmidt available on phoenix online. You may as well only get the transcript in PDF format but you´ll miss a real spellbinder.

UPDATE:
check the phoenix bibliothek – the whole speach is downloadable in MPEG4. Thats what I pay my GEZ for… finally something…

Thomas’ Modulor Project

ModulorIn 2005, Thomas Ackermann started his project on Le Corbusier’s Modulor, a scale of proportions that can be used for any kind of creation. Le Corbusier used this scale for his architecture.
The font and the posters that are displayed below are based on this scale. The photos are the latest part of his experiement. The images are taken at the Dockland in Hamburg, Germany.

The Presidents of the USA

Al Gore should have been the president of the USA. If you feel a little like me, Gore’s speech at the TED will make you cry. What would the world be like without this guy?

(Once you’re done crying, go on and read the article about Al Gore at wired.com.)

Do you remember the Sony Bravia ad Bas has linked to recently? Tango has a good parody.

web+1

Web2.0 is old, Web3.0 will be old soon, and Web4.0 will be old and boring as well. We want to be ahead of things:

var web = Web.getCurrentVersion();
var weAre = web+1;

Did I make myself clear?

Web 2.0 Reinvented

I love applications like this one! I am working on a great business plan right now: It’s about remixing social synergies, enabling dynamic folksonomies and the reinvention of next generation social platforms.

Broadcasting with del.icio.us

The question why so many people bookmarked about:blank at del.icio.us still bugs me. (Apparently there was only one person (Jeff) who tried to answer.)
The for-tag is quite good way to contact people via del.icio.us. But it’s hard to use it for a lot of user names.
So I wrote a little program that parses the site for the user names, and then generates a huge string consisting of for:user1 for:user2 for:user3…. I copied that string and tagged my posting with it.

Pros

  • Contact many people at once.
  • Reach a peer group with a special interest.
  • Easy and fast.
  • No costs of distribution.
Cons
  • Some might consider it as spam
  • Users get angry.
  • The huge tag line with the for-tags stays there and somehow messes up your link list.
  • For some reason it takes a long time until the link appears on the for-page.
It’s going to be interesting how many people will respond to this broadcast. (Maybe it won’t work at all since del.icio.us will prevent the for-tag spam.)
