Kill your TV!
Since Joost is not available for the general public yet you might want to take a look at Stage6: Whether you need a little entertainment (300 maybe?) or a certain episode of 24, it could be the platform that eases your pain.
The Stage6-Plugin works quite well and the quality is fairly good. All DivX-files are available for download.

just recently zapped through a quite eloquent talk on “ethics in politics” (in german only - sorry) helt in the university of tübingen by former german chancellor Helmut Schmidt available on phoenix online. You may as well only get the transcript in PDF format but you´ll miss a real spellbinder.
UPDATE:
check the phoenix bibliothek – the whole speach is downloadable in MPEG4. Thats what I pay my GEZ for… finally something…
