about:blank madness

Why did more than 1.500 people bookmark about:blank at del.icio.us? Could anyone tell me, please?

Not blank its just a new firefox extension that uses invisible ink :) but seriously that is a good question.

[…] The question why so many people bookmarked about:blank at del.icio.us still bugs me. (Apparently there was only one person (Jeff) who tried to answer.) The for-tag is quite good way to contact people via del.icio.us. But it’s hard to use it for a lot of user names. So I wrote a little program that parses the site for the user names, and then generates a huge string consisting of for:user1 for:user2 for:user3…. I copied that string and tagged my posting with it.Pros […]

    Ok, 100 for-tags didn’t work. So I re-started my del.ico.us broadcast with for-tags for 30 users. Anyone out there who’s reading this?

Hi, I’m gnfti on delicious and I have about:blank bookmarked as well. As others have done I tagged it “zen”, which I think is apt in our time of information overload. Then again, a lot of people will probably just have about:blank set a their homepage, clicked the “post to del.icio.us” boomarklet by mistake (say, from the personal toolbar folder), noticed other people have bookmarked it too, and decided to keep it for fun. Or just completed the posting process to get it over with and get to the porn, already. Who knows.

(And yes, I got here via the “for” tag.)

Hey Paul, you’re my personal hero! I thought I could never reach anyone with my for-tag spam.

I guess there are only few delicioneers who use this feature.

Thank for sharing your wonderful music! (If you ever want to do some guerilla marketing via del.icio.us fell free to contact me ;-) )

No, this is a configuration difficulty I think. I have it too and can’t work it out. Any time I try and use the del.icio.us shortcut on the toolbar (I’m running firefox1.07) the URL on the del.icio.us page defaults to about:blank. I suspect all those people have a similar issue and have bookmarked without realising the URL is not what they wanted. about:blank seems to be what firefox called untitled pages and I’ve been told the problem is connected with referrers. I think I need to turn referrers off but haven’t been able to do that. Any help appreciated! Net, I don’t think the problem is to do with the about:blank hijacker.
